Is there a way to get rid of Acne?

Published in Acne - 0 Comments

AcneHear, hear! We’ve pretty much figured out how to dissolve fat, prevent wrinkles, shoot people into space (and even bring them back); how hard can it be to get rid of acne? Actually, harder than you’d think, because acne results from a complicated process involving a plugged pore, oil, bacteria and inflammation, and it’s also influenced by genetics and hormones, says Katie Rodan, MD, clinical associate professor emeritus of dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine.  A shot of cortisone directly into a pimple reduces inflammation in a day or two, and the oral prescription medicine isotretinoin can give long-lasting results with cystic or severe acne. The best way to prevent acne is by using a combination of ingredients that address each step in the breakout process, including salicylic acid to disrupt the plug, benzoyl peroxide for protection from bacteria and sulfur for its anti-inflammatory effect. This is a great skin care regimen that includes all of the ingredients listed above: Acne Treatment

Breakouts? Unpredictable? Unreasonable? Unfair? Take control of your acne! Check out this regimen, clinically proven to combat the entire acne cycle! This sophisticated regimen helps unclog pores, clears acne blemishes and calms your complexion to keep pimples, blackheads and post-acne marks from making an unwelcome appearance on your face—and in your life.

Take control of your acne!  You don’t have to live with breakouts!

Lines around my lips!

Lines around mouth

One of the most popular questions now for anti-aging products has to do with those lines around your lips!  Do you know what I am talking about?  maybe you are starting to see them too…  Is this a part of aging that you just have to deal with?  I am sure you can guess my answer… NO!  Fight those lines!  We want to keep those lips looking luscious and kissable at all times, and this includes getting rid of those pesky lines around your mouth! When it comes to lips, time and the environment take their toll in a profound way….

So what can you do?

There are a few options that you can do with your dermatologist, including, but not limited to CO2 Laser treatments or fillers around the lips.  Some have even see great results with small amounts of botox injections around the mouth.  These types of treatments, with the exception of botox, can run you anywhere from $2,000 – $4,500 per treatment.

Another options is using a derma roller or microneedling around your mouth.  This actually will help reproduce collagen, and will reduce the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles around your lips.

One option that is really easy is finding a lip serum that not only helps your lips look healthy, but actually fights the lines around your lips too.   I found a serum that is antioxidant-rich and contains peptides to help lips retain natural moisturizing factors, smoothes lip texture and reduces the appearance of lip wrinkles. I put this on at night, and let it fight the wrinkle fight while I sleep!  You can’t beat that!

Let’s do what we can to keep those lips looking youthful and kissable all year long!

How to treat Acne Scarring

Acne scaringAcne is just a part of life for some of us. Or maybe it was all in the past, but you still have to live each day with the constant reminders from your acne scars on your face or other parts of your body.  Sometimes the scars can be so severe that they actually start to disfigure the way your face looks.  What if there was something you could do to help reduce the appearance of those scars.  Would that change your life?  Would it change the way you feel each day?

Well, there is good news for you!  There are many options out there that really work.  Some require a dermatologist assistance, but don’t feel like that is the only option for you.  Thousands of people have had fabulous results with over the counter products that you can use at your own home.

If your scars are light, you could start with a cream that lightens the dark areas in your skin.  This can actually fade out any darkness from the scars to make them less noticeable.

If your scars are a little more severe than just a darker skin tone, there are options for you too.  Working with your dermatologist, they can talk with you about laser treatments and filler injections for your scarring. This is probably the most costly option, of of course, is not pain free. This would also be an ongoing process and is not a permanent option.

One option I love for reducing the appearance of scarring is microdermabrasion!  This can also be done at your dermatologist office or you can check out this amazing at home microdermabrasion tool.  I personally love the option of having a tool at home so I can continue to use it, rather than continuing to schedule appointments with my dermatologist.

Another popular option is microneedling!  This another service that you can schedule with your dermatologist.  Microneedling actually breaks down old scar tissue and starts the process of new cell growth.  This has been proven to help skin appear firmer and make lines and wrinkles less noticeable for a more luminous and refined appearance of the skin.  You can also buy the microneedling tool to use at home.  Many have had amazing results with this product: AMP MD Roller

I don’t know if you can tell, I am personally a HUGE fan of having the option to do these treatments at home.  This is just my personal preference!

Pick one or two of these options, and give them a try! You don’t have to live with those acne scars!  Don’t let them control your life.  Take back the control and show those acne scars who’s boss!

I have LARGE pores! Is there anything I can do?

Large Pores

There are so many of us that have large pores on our faces.  I am not sure about you, but it seems to get worse with age!  Is this something you just have to accept?  Or maybe cake on makeup for those ladies out there…. Or is there something that can be done to actually shrink the size of the pores on your face?

While many people revert to makeup, I wanted to to something to change my skin!  After doing research, I found quite a few options out there:

  • Chemical peels
  • Laser skin resurfacing
  • Laser skin tightening
  • IPL Photofacial

Many of these options cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars and require multiple treatments.

So, seeing as I don’t have unlimited funds to spend on my face…. I started searching for other options.

There had to be something that I could use that was a daily regimen, and could be purchased over the counter.  I began using a regimen that included a Poor Minimizing Toner and I could see a difference in just a few weeks!  This toner has a combination of pore-clarifying ingredients minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores that is fast-acting! And bonus, it is alcohol-free! This toner also has gentle polyhydroxy acids that exfoliate pore clogging dead skin cells while natural oligosaccharides help reduce the appearance of pores and prepares skin for the treatments that follow.

So, not only are you cleaning out the reason your pores were enlarged in the first place, but you are actually preventing the issue from resurfacing.

The manufacture of this product recommends using the toner in conjunction with their 4 step regimen for best results.  You can find more info by clicking here: Poor minimizing regimen

Don’t settle for the skin you have today.  You have the power to change!

What are the benefits of exfoliation?

Sure, we have all heard about the importance of exfoliating our skin.  We know it helps, but why does it help?

Why exfoliate your skin?

Why exfoliate your skin?

Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars pay thousands of dollars to keep their skin looking great, and exfoliation is a big part of their routine.  Exfoliation should be step number 1!!  But why?

Some of the benefits include, but are not limited to:

Benefits of Exfoliation

• Detoxification of the skin
• Brightens the complexion
• Gets rid of dead, dull skin cells
• Reveals healthy, younger skin
• Reduces fine lines and sun damage
• Improves skin tone
• Kills bacteria and prevents breakouts
• Improves product penetration and treatment results

Exfoliate at Home
1. In the shower, soap body thoroughly, then rinse
2. Rub exfoliating scrub all over, then rinse
3. Towel dry
4. Apply your favorite body lotion

Now that we know why… here is the big question, HOW???  I don’t know about you, but paying thousands on a regular basis is not something that I am interested in, BUT I do want to have healthier, younger looking skin.

Great news, you can have your own Macro-exfoliator in your own home!  Using this great tool removes over 5,000 skin cells each time you use it.  I personally have one, and use it at least once a week.  It even has a “smart doc” mode that walks you through each step, and it only takes 5 minutes!

How to heal dry skin quickly!

dry_skindry_skin
dry_skindry_skindry_skinYour skin is your first line of defense against everything you come into contact with each day; sun, wind, cold, etc.  To get the kind of soft and smooth skin you’ll want to show off, learn these eight top causes of, and fixes for, dry skin.

So what are come causes, and what can you do?

Winter Weather – Once the weather gets colder and the temperatures start to drop, that is when you also start to lose humidity.  Ever notice the electric shocks in your home once the winter months start, that is due to loss of humidity in the air.  When the air is dry, your skin starts feeling the heat, leaving it thirsty for moisture! On top of all this, when the temperatures drop, our thermostats rise… making the conditions for your skin even worse.

If you don’t have one already, it really helps to have a humidifier running in your home as much as possible.

When you shower, try to make them quick!  The longer you are under the heat in the shower, the more it dries out your skin. Also, after your sower, try utilizing over the counter products that actually work on healing and strengthening the skin to soothe any irritation, and to lock in moisture.

Look for a body wash that won’t take moisture away from your skin.  This is something you may never thing about, but your soap could actually be stripping moisture right out of your skin. In the winter months, also try just using your hands or a soft cloth rather than that harsh luffa you have in your shower now.

You want to find a skin product that helps actually shield your skin against the biological and environmental aggressors that can trigger inflammation.  Help strengthen your skin’s natural moisture barrier.

Also, just because you are not lying out at the pool doesn’t mean you don’t need sunscreen!  Protect your face year round with a high quality moisturizer with an SPF.

Dry, itchy skin is not something that you should have to live with.  It is treatable and preventable if you know what to look for, and what defenses to take.  Try these few tips, and let us know how they work for you!

Can Sun Damage Be Reversed?

Reverse sun damaged skin!

I recently read an article on reversing the effects of sun damage on your face from UT San Diego. Please click here for the entire article.

Reversing the effects of sun damage

Most people I know love how their skin looks after being in the sun! As the article from UT Sane Diego states it, we have a “love/hate relationship with the sun. We love the way it warms us and gives a bronzed glow to our cheeks. However, we hate its accumulative effects — the wrinkling, brown spots, rough texture, broken capillaries and uneven tone.”

As we age, these spots can get darker and even harder to cover up even with the best makeup!

“Your arm has nice smooth skin. But your face has wrinkles, brown spots and discolorations,” said Dr. Mitchel Goldman, La Jolla dermatologist. “It’s all sun damage.”

The article discussed options for reversing the effects of sun damage with services such as skin lasering combined with other products $500 to $5,000; Chemical peels ranging from $200 – $1,000; Prescription products ranging from $100 – $300 per tube; Injectable facial fillers $650 to $1,100 per treatment.

If you are not into spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on an expensive laser treatment, the article gives some great guidelines on what to look for when buying over the counter products.   Continue reading
